Electric Fires

Electric Suites - New Designs

Have you noticed the growing number of people having electric fireplaces installed in their homes? There are a number of factors contributing to the trend and its clear that the image associated with these suites has been changing in the past few years.

Once used mainly in homes that were lacking in central heating, we're now seeing a number of home owners looking to buy because they are looking to add elegance to their property. In essence, we're seeing a switch from electric fireplaces as a source of heating, to a position where they are being bought because of their ability to add contemporary style to a room.

Is this change of image something that has simply come out of the blue? Well, the short answer to that is - no.

Looking at the way in which these appliances have been designed, it's become clear that the leading manufacturers have been attempting to make them more desirable. That's meant that they've recognised the need to produce a more contemporary look.

That's often been achieved by overhauling the entire appearance of products - there's no doubt that recent models are making the most of their ability to create effects that are very similar to real, open fires. But the changes go deeper than that.

We've also witnessed a change in the materials that are used in construction. To some extent manufacturers would undoubtedly suggest that this is part of an attempt to ensure that appliances last for longer. They would not deny, however, that the use of chrome finishes and other neat touches has made the products look more pleasing on the eye and hence more desirable.

You may well wonder whether all of these improvements will come at a cost. Will a new, contemporary electric fireplace cost you a lot more than one of the older, unfashionable models.

There's no doubt that, at the top end of the market, leading brands are selling products in a way that is intended to appeal to those who like an extra bit of luxury. With more unique designs and with more expensive materials used in construction, this inevitably means that luxury doesn't come cheap.

At the budget end of the market, however, leading brands have been lowering prices. This may well be to tempt people into owning an electric fire for the first time. Whatever the reason, it can only be good news for consumers.

Don't forget that cheapest prices on most appliances are likely to be found online - check them out before you buy.
